Retreat

If the task has a retreat value and your final attribute is equal or higher, you must retreat the card. When you retreat an Enemy or State, flip it face down. Leave all tokens, cubes, and dice on the card.

Some Enemies or States have a retreat box with hacking cube slots. (See details under: Retreat Box.)

Clarifications:

  • Retreated cards are flipped back to their front side in the encounter phase. (See: Encounter Phase.)
  • Retreat happens before activating Enemies. This means: If you retreat an Enemy during a task where you revealed a Skull, that Enemy will not attack.
  • Enemies and States without a retreat value can be retreated through effects.
  • A retreated card is face-down and cannot be interacted with, unless an effect specifically mentions retreated cards. (See: Retreated Cards.)
  • Any encounter card that is face-down at a location or in the Network is considered a retreated card. A dilemma that is flipped face up is resolved by the active character (without drawing it).
