To start a new campaign, follow these steps.
- Read the Campaign Introduction
Read the introduction from the storybook out loud. - Assemble the Modifier Pool
Take all modifiers listed after the campaign introduction in the storybook. These modifiers form the modifier pool and are used in all episodes. The modifier pool can change throughout the campaign, but only when explicitly stated. Such changes are permanent for the remainder of the campaign. - Choose Difficulty
Select the preferred difficulty for your campaign. (See details under: Difficulty and Nemesis Cards.) - Choose Characters
Each player chooses 1 character to play for this campaign. You can either play a character’s preconstructed deck or build your own character.- Use a preconstructed deck: Take all cards showing the character’s set icon. Each character comes with the following cards:
- 1 Character card
- 1 double-sided Character Tool
- 8 regular Tools
- 1 Ally with the [Universal] trait
- 24 Action cards (8 of level 1-3 each)
- Build your own deck: Follow the rules explained in the section Character Customization.
- Use a preconstructed deck: Take all cards showing the character’s set icon. Each character comes with the following cards:
- Choose Character Tool
Choose which side of your Character Tool you want to use for the campaign and note your decision in the campaign log. - Set Aside Level Up Cards
Set all level 2 and level 3 Action cards aside and return them to the collection. These are not available yet, but can be unlocked throughout the campaign. All level 1 Action cards are available at the start of the campaign.
Note: There are additional deckbuilding rules for solo play. (See details under: Solo Rules.)
Clarifications:
- Players may not choose the same character within a campaign. (See: Collection and Alternative Character.)
- The choice of which side of your Character Tool you use applies to the entire campaign.
