Threat

In addition to the difficulty, some tasks have a threat value.

During the resolution of a task (step 6), if your modified attribute is lower than the threat value of the task, you must resolve the threat: Suffer as much Stress as the number of Stress icons and trigger as much Surveillance as the number of Surveillance icons.

A few cards have the asterisk threat icon: When you resolve the threat, resolve the unique effect in their text box.

Threat icons with a white background can be covered by Hacking Cubes (via Hacking or effects). Threat icons with a solid red background cannot be covered by Hacking Cubes.

Ignore threat icons that are covered by Hacking Cubes. If all threat icons of a card are covered, it is considered to have no threat.

Clarifications:

  • Resolving the threat is independent from succeeding or failing the task.
  • Threat is resolved before resolving the basic effect. That means you must suffer the threat of an Enemy (if you do not meet the threat value) even if you will defeat it as the result of the task.
  • You only need to resolve the threat on the card whose task you performed.
  • Threat icons are summed up. For example, if a card has 3 Stress icons, you will suffer 3 Stress – not 1 Stress three times.
  • Threat icons are also used during Enemy attacks.
  • Resolving an Enemy attack and resolving the threat are not the same.
